Ellie Drake – Be Bold On The Outside Yet Humble On The Inside

Kellie HosakaBe Bold Yet Humble

A few years ago I was taught a concept “Be Bold on the Outside yet Humble on the Inside” by my friend and mentor Ellie Drake.  Ellie Drake is president and CEO of BraveHeart Productions, and she has a social networking site for woman with a purpose, called Braveheart Women.

She Walked Her Talk

Ellie not only taught me this concept through her coaching, she taught me this concept by her actions.  She truly “walked her talk” as I saw her grow from being a very successful personal growth coach into the creator of the globally renown Braveheart Women Global Community.

When I first heard Ellie on a CD, I felt so moved that I called her and immediately hired her to coach me personally.  Her story was so inspiring and her energy flowed right through the phone!  (Ellie is an immigrant who came to America speaking very little English.  She had very little resources, however she had a strong desire, and she became a doctor, an inspirational speaker, a coach, and a millionaire!)  She was “magnetic”! 😯 When Jim Rohn says “Success is something you attract by the person you become“, he was talking about a person like Ellie.

Success Leaves Tracks

I learned so much from Ellie during those years as we continued to “mastermind” together.  Over the years as I studied and learned from many successful people, I saw that every one of them had this quality of being “Bold on the Outside, yet Humble on the Inside“.  It took me years to truly understand and apply many of the concepts Ellie tried to teach me back then.  Every time I felt afraid, I remembered her words and knew that all successful people feel fear, yet they still move forward.  One of my favorite lines comes from the movie Princess Diaries II… “Courage is not the absence of Fear, it’s just the decision that something else is more Important“.  Once I moved forward, the synchronistic events started to happen in my life.   😆 Then I remembered to also always “Be Humble on the Inside“.   🙂

Here’s our video on Be Bold Yet Humble:

Ellie Told Me To Create Videos

In 2008, Ellie told me to create videos and put them out on the internet, however, I delayed as I struggled to learn and gain the confidence to finally do both in 2009.  🙄  Thank you Ellie for your words of wisdom and your “heart print” which remains deep in my soul.  I continue to “live today as if it is the best day of my life so when it is the last day of my life, it’ll be the best day of my life” — Ellie Drake.

Successful people are always learning and they are always on the cutting edge.  That’s why I love to learn and “hang around” people who are where I want to be.  It’s not always easy because we are always growing and learning, however, it is always exciting! 😆   As Jim Rohn says “Don’t join an easy crowd. You won’t grow.  Go where the expectations and the demands to perform and achieve are high.

Do you have a mentor?  Who are the people you “hang around” with? We’d love to hear your answers and your thoughts about our article in the comments below.  May we ask you to click the “f share” button at the top of the article to share on Facebook, or “retweet” this on Twitter or Linkedin?

Love this post. I must say that you’re doing great on the videos. Funny my coach told me to create video too but I don’t like being infront of the camera…lol.

  4. Kellie Says:

    Aloha Tina,
It’s so wonderful to see you on our blog! Yes, I know what you mean about the videos. As you can see, it took me 18 months after Ellie told me to do them, so I know that it’s not always easy. You will do just fine. Just listen to your coach, they always know what’s best for us! Aloha 🙂

    Hi Kellie,

I only hang with winners and obsessively poor over uber-successful people. When around these folks, we become inspired by them and mimic their actions.

Awesome advice by Ellie. Always be humble, but be extremely confident and bold. Boldness is directness; it’s going from point A to point B in a straight line. Yet when we take that journey, we need not tell people how brave or bold we are, for when we have to say it, we aren’t 😉

    Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Kellie,
Really inspiring story how your got better, thanks to your mentor. I love to hang out with daring, yet humble people. The kind of people “you don’t see coming but get there before you know it” (Line from Al pacino, Devils advocate). It’s really inspiring to be around such high aimers.
thanks for sharing your story. I learned..

    Hi Kellie,

You have truly been transformed. I saw your 1st video and you have become so much more relaxed and comfortable as you speak. Thanks for sharing. You are one of my most important mentors,I try to use and mimic all that you do. I guess I am becoming a miniKellie. I only hope that I can be as successful.

  10. Kellie Says:

Aloha Kay! You are so sweet! Thank you for your kind words, and yes, I must agree with you…I have gotten better. It’s funny watching those videos in the beginning, it documents how much we grow over time. I was going to delete them and one of my social media coaches said to leave them up, so everyone can see my growth! It’s all very cool, just like in life! I am glad you are learning Kay! Keep up the great work. Aloha 🙂

  11. Debra Agoo Says:

    Kellie,
Both yours and Ellie’s journey continue to inspire me today. I remember when I first took that leap of faith into my entrepreneur’s journey, the Kellie/Ellie team is what gave me courage to fly to Atlanta to see her for the first time not knowing what I was getting myself into. That was the farthest distance this local girl had ever flown by myself.
Like Ellie, I burned my bridge and haven’t looked back. Watching you both grow and evolve because you both continue to learn and “play big” gives us permission to do the same. Love you both for following your heart!
    In gratitude,
    Debra

And yes, please be Bold, cause you’re gonna do it anyway, you might as well start now. Look at how long I waited and then we all get better with practice right? You’ll be Great Martha! Thanks again 🙂

  15. Aloha - Lani Says:

Aloha Kellie, very inspirational video clip and post and nice to hear you stepped out of your comfort zone. You took advice from a person who knows herself and absolutely thinking and love others, to give you such good advice. Vice versa you took action, because you knew what you wanted. Glad I came by and thanks for sharing. Keep it going! Mahalo, Lani 🙂

  17. Jacqueline Gates Says:

Kellie, I learn something new about you every day!!
I didn’t know you were mentored by Ellie ~ how luscious is that?!

I’ve followed her for a while but must admit that I haven’t taken an active part of the BraveHeart Women project – although I’m thinking I might have to change that!

And I’m also thrilled that she talked you into going on camera. Even in the early ones, your message and strength shone through the awkwardness.

    So glad we’re connected, angel.
I’m inspired by you more than I can say!

    Bliss-ings,

  18. Kellie Hosaka Says:

Aloha Jacqui, yes, a lot happens in 16 years of BEcoming an entrepreneur and I have always believed in mentors. I was truly blessed the day I called Ellie. She and I went through some wonderful times! It’s amazing to look back after the years and see all of “tracks” and “footprints” which are there from years of “walking” step by step. You, my dear Goddess are doing that now and I am so proud of you! Much love 🙂

  19. Haven Says:

    Håfa Adai Kellie,

Thank you for the opportunity to meet Ellie in person. An experience I will never forget. Awesome blog! BTW my coach tells me to make videos too… =)
