How To Make Personal Growth Part Of Your Daily Routine

Personal development routineNo Time For Personal Development?

I used to feel like I had so much to do, therefore, I didn’t have time to fit in personal development too! 🙄  Do you ever feel this way?

Successful People Find Time For Personal Growth

If successful people all find the time to do personal growth, I knew I had to change my habits to add personal development into my daily schedule.  It was very tough at first!  I was working 14 hrs/day at my corporate job, and I couldn’t do it there, so I started to think how could I fit it in?   🙄

Turn Your Car Into An Audio Library

Back then we had cassette tapes of personal development books, and I had to drive to work 6 days/week, so if I listened to tapes in my car while I was driving, then I could get my personal growth in my car!   🙂  Then I remembered, I didn’t have a tape player in my little Nissan Pulsar. 😕   Hmmm, well I decided to buy a little hand held cassette player with speakers that I could put on the passenger seat, and play my a personal development tapes!  Yes, that worked and I kept on doing this!  Now I have a CD player in my car!   😀

Daily “Pockets of Time” Where We Can Learn

I also found other blocks of time in my daily routine where I could listen to personal development tapes.  I placed a tape player 5 steps from my bedside and always “pressed the play button”. Here’s a list of the times I found to utilize and “press the play button” for my personal growth:

1)  Getting ready in the morning from the minute I got out of bed,

2)  Shower or bath time,

3) Preparing meals and cleaning up in the kitchen time,

4) Doing laundry & folding clothes time,

5) Any cleaning time in any part of the house,

6) Bathroom time,

7) Bedtime (fell asleep to personal growth tapes).

Here’s how my plan was developed:

I found times to “fit in” personal growth into my daily routine.  Once I was in this routine, it became a habit, and once it was a habit, I couldn’t go a day without it!  Everything changed after that! 😆  Do you think you could find some time for your personal growth plan?  We’d love to hear what your personal growth plan is and how you find time in your daily routine.  Let us know in the comments below.

Aloha Kellie, awesome as usual and I do find the time for personal growth. In fact, when my kids get out of hand, that is my discipline, personal growth reading Rich dad poor day or listening to a DVD. They question me on this and I let it go thru one ear and come out the other. I think my brain is getting trained to learn to be encouraging and at times I get frustrated to hearing negative stuff and I feel like running from it.. Lol But all I do is do what you do, surround myself with up lifting messages. Glad I came by and thanks for sharing! Mahalo, Lani 🙂

    Aloha dear Lani,
John Maxwell’s dad used to reward them for doing personal growth, so try and reverse it. I did the same thing with my son and now you can’t even take it away from him cause he sees reward when doing it! It’s also so cool cause I can talk about anything with Personal growth with him cause he knows them all! I love sharing that with him! Thanks for coming by! Much aloha 🙂

My job requires a 45 minute journey currently. I sometimes listen to some CD’s of this nature. It’s a good reminder. I could do with some more. I think that even not actively listening has it’s benefits. The words can go into the sub-conscious.

We have the time to develop ourselves, we need to use it properly though. Commuting is a wonderful time to listen to CDs or read a book if you’re using public transport. Set your alarm 30 minutes earlier to meditate. Go to bed 30 minutes earlier to read a self help book. Do what it takes to build the life of your dreams. Thanks Kellie!

    Hi Kellie,

Awesome post that reminds me. If we set a pattern of consistency, we can accomplish great things! There are no excuses when you are serious about doing it. If you aren’t serious, there is always an excuse.

Oh Kellie– I love this! When we’re busy it can be really common to overlook the area of personal development…but if you think about it, if we aren’t ‘developed’ and consistent learning and growing, how can anything else in our lives improve? Thanks so much for the reminder! God bless,
    Emily

    Hi Kellie,
Personal growth is a must if we ever want to step outside the life we have. People tend to settle for the life they have and then complain about why it never gets any better.
Your ideas for finding time to add personal growth to your life are spot on! We all have small blocks in our day where we can spend 10-15 minutes. The best part is those seeminly small sections of time add up to make a huge change in our lives.
    Great article,

I also listened to audio programs in my car while driving and while doing house chores. Since I started my blog I haven’t digested much PD material.

I used to go to the bookstore like Barnes&Noble and Borders to get my PD fix. Youtube also has some great PD material as well.

  21. Melissa McCloud Says:

this is great kellie… and we all know what a PD diva you are!

i always used to push PD to the back burner because i figured it wasn’t making me money right away, so it could be brushed aside for more important activities when i was crunched for time.

until i understood what jim rohn meant when he said, “your business will only grow as fast as YOU do!” i never prioritized PD. but now, it’s my FAVORITE part of my day. my “ME” time! and it’s also so valuable to take just 5 measly minutes to make it happen.

thanks kellie… and it was so great to see you last weekend 🙂
