My Life As An Employee
Before I became an entrepreneur, I was an Employee (E) in the corporate world and I just went to work and focused on “climbing the corporate ladder”. I knew nothing about our economy, how it worked and I certainly did not feel it was my responsibility to do “my part” to contribute to our economy. I didn’t have any financial education and frankly I didn’t understand any of it! I feel very blessed today to be part of an industry which Robert Kiyosaki calls “The Business of the 21st Century“, because I truly got taught and continue to be taught, step-by-step, to become a successful home based network marketing business owner.
Rich Dad, Poor Dad
Robert Kiyosaki wrote “Rich Dad Poor Dad“, which sold 28 million copies in 109 different countries, in 51 different languages, and is the number #1 personal finance book ever written. He has just written a new book “The Business of the 21st Century“, where he reveals what he believes to be the Business of the 21st Century! He explains how there are 4 basic people in the world of business. (click on the link to a previous article where I explain this more) The Employee (E), the Small Business person (S), the Big Business person (B), and the Investor (I). Back in the late 90′s, after reading “Rich Dad Poor Dad“, I knew I had to learn how to be a B & I.
Employees And Small Businesses Are Getting Crushed
Robert goes on to say “with the current financial crisis, the E’s & S’s are getting crushed”. They are competing worldwide for jobs, they are highly taxed, and inflation is skyrocketing. So, the business of the 21st century is designed to take people from the E & S quadrants to the B & I’s.
The statistics are that 90% of new businesses fail within the first 5 years, then the remaining 10% crash in the next 5 years, therefore, most new businesses are gone within 10 years. Robert says the business of the 21st century, however, takes very little upfront cash, low overhead, and you can start it part-time while you keep your day job. He says “it’s a business about people helping other people make money, so they can become financially free. It’s not about selling, it’s about people helping people build assets, becoming business owners, then becoming investors.” So, it is a business which helps E & S’s become B & I’s.
Why Robert Kiyosaki Says Network Marketing Is The Business Of The 21st Century:
1) Genuine wealth creation. E’s & S’s work hard, but they don’t create any assets. If you’re self-employed, you may have a business, but it’s not really an asset cause if you stop working, your asset doesn’t work for you. E’s & S’s work for money, while B’s & I’s build assets and assets are real wealth. Your network marketing business is a real asset.
2) Truly an equal opportunity business. It’s not about education, race, gender, or age. It’s a level playing field and it’s all up to you. If you have the drive, determination, and discipline, you will win.
3) It’s a personal developmemt program and a path to personal success. It’s truly about bringing out the greatness that lies inside of you through a process which helps other people and Robert says “That is revolutionary!”.
4) There’s a supportive group of peoplewho want the best for you. If you give it your best and be fully committed for 5 years, Robert says “you will be a completely different human being”.
5) You can have a worldwide business. Your business is scalable to where you are. If you stay small, your business will stay small. If you get big, it’ll grow bigger.
6) You will learn how to be a great leader. You must practice what you preach in network marketing, and be a role model or example for people to follow. You must have courage, and perserverence, and you will become a great leader.
The Business Model Of The Future
Network Marketing is the business model of the future cause it is setup to make it possible for anyone to win. It’s the business for the new era, the information age and beyond. Robert predicts network marketing businesses are going to “explode” in the future, especially as unemployment increases and wages come down. Biggest Mistakes When Choosing A Company
Robert says “one of the biggest mistakes people make when choosing a network marketing business is they look at the product first”. Robert feels you should look at who your leaders are and how good their training program is. Ask yourself, do they really have your best interest at heart? Will they assist you in coming out of your shell, help you not to be afraid of rejection, and teach you the skills to become a great leader yourself? He feels that’s the most important criteria when evaluating a network marketing company.
Robert also offers advice to the young people, Generation Y:
The current statistics for college graduate men, 18-25 yrs old, are 19% cannot find a job and many graduates are deeply in debt. Before you get trapped in the corporate world, and try to climb the corporate ladder to make everybody happy, Robert says you want to make a decision to dedicate your life to becoming an entrepreneur. You don’t get rich quick, it is harder, and it takes courage. Robert highly recommends you start your own network marketing business now and practice, because it takes time. You will make mistakes, but it will be one of the best experiences you’ll ever have, and when you’re successful, you’ll find freedom and an abundance of wealth E’s & S’s will never experience.

I feel so grateful to have found our Network Marketing business in 1995, as I had been one of those “climbing the corporate ladder” for 13 years of my life! I had no time, no freedom, and I longed to be home with my little son. Network marketing allowed me the freedom to leave the corporate world in 1995, and little did I know, we would be educated on how to truly create assets and become a B & I. This information is so valuable I remember I used to think why is it that some people have such abundant lifestyles and time while others work really hard and seem to get no where. As a young adult, I thought the answer was education. Looking back this led me to go to graduate school with the full expectation that it would allow me to create a lucrative profession. Fast forward 13 years later, 200 K in student loan debt meanwhile there is no job security, social security, and retirement plan. Wow! Thank goodness I learned and got re-educated about how I can change the direction of my life. Today, I am a part-time home based business owner and learning to apply this information to design the life I desire.

Just to add a little more about Business of the 21st Century. Kim Kiyosaki wrote a chapter, called ‘A Business where Women Excel’
I found this chapter fasinating. Kim stated, “This is a powerful business for women, populated by 4 times as many women as men.
88% of direct sellers in the USA are Women and the proportions are the same worldwide.
Why?
It is a genuinly seen as a part time business and as most men are the primary breadwinners, it often meant that the stay at home mum took responsisbility. and it fits in with family life…
It is a supporting, coaching, nuturting relationship business, which is the kind of thing women excel at.
Statistic in the book show that
47% of women over 50 are single (ie financially responsible for themselves)
Women’s retirement income is less dued to time out of the work force
Women live an average of 7 – 10 years longer than men.]
3 out of 4 of the elderly living in poverty are women.
7 out of 10 women will some time live in poverty.
Network Marketing is ideal, it can help avoid dependency, has no glass ceiling, no limits, increases self esteem, gives women control of their time and creates an opportunity for wealth.
PLUS it is FUN
The time is now for network marketing and Robert and Kim in this book have put the reasons why in writing, it should be standard reading in econmics in schools.

I am always trying to spread Robert’s words about the importance of Financial Education to many of my friends and family who will listen, but unfortunately for them many don’t listen !! But as the saying goes ‘Action speaks louder than words’ and I’m now trying to do this via my blog and my network marketing, and I must agree with Robert, being an Entrepreneur is not easy and involves a lot of hard work, it’s challenging and definitely is not a ‘get rich quick’ scheme lol! but it’s fun and rewarding, and I’m looking forward to the day that I can ‘fire my boss’ and do this full time and achieve the life of my choosing – then ‘seeing will be believing’ and then I believe that people will listen to me and I can help them to help themselves to re-educate themselves and have the life of their choosing.
In the meantime I’m on a steep learning curve, and not always doing things the way I should and making lots of mistakes (I’m not very technical, but learning lol! ) and taking longer than most people to do so… but hey! who said it was a race… I know I’ll get there.

Even our children continue to be brought up in the same educational environment and mentality that Robert speaks of. our business is not a “get-rich-quick” path, and it took me over a year to accept that fact. but it is “become-a-better-person-quick” business, and now that’s my favorite thing about it!
i never thought of being an entrepreneur; it’s something i definitely fell into. but now i can’t imagine living my life (and my livelihood) any other way. we have a responsibility as entrepreneurs to “spread the word”. it brings credibility to our business and helps our country become self-sufficient, financially stable, better people, better parents, etc. etc. etc.

One thing I found is that you have to be a certain type of person to be a network marketer. You have to be able to motivate your downline and not get discouraged. Hi Kellie, incredible blog post! This information is so valuable
I remember I used to think why is it that some people have such abundant lifestyles and time while others work really hard and seem to get no where. As a young adult, I thought the answer was education. Looking back this led me to go to graduate school with the full expectation that it would allow me to create a lucrative profession. Fast forward 13 years later, 200 K in student loan debt meanwhile there is no job security, social security, and retirement plan. Wow! Thank goodness I learned and got re-educated about how I can change the direction of my life. Today, I am a part-time home based business owner and learning to apply this information to design the life I desire.

I really enjoyed your article, most of it resonated with me as a Mum of three,and I am eternally grateful that Network Marketing allows me the freedom and offers me the future that we desire.
Just to add a little more about Business of the 21st Century. Kim Kiyosaki wrote a chapter, called ‘A Business where Women Excel’
I found this chapter fasinating. Kim stated, “This is a powerful business for women, populated by 4 times as many women as men.
88% of direct sellers in the USA are Women and the proportions are the same worldwide.
Why?
It is a genuinly seen as a part time business and as most men are the primary breadwinners, it often meant that the stay at home mum took responsisbility. and it fits in with family life…
It is a supporting, coaching, nuturting relationship business, which is the kind of thing women excel at.
Statistic in the book show that
47% of women over 50 are single (ie financially responsible for themselves)
Women’s retirement income is less dued to time out of the work force
Women live an average of 7 – 10 years longer than men.]
3 out of 4 of the elderly living in poverty are women.
7 out of 10 women will some time live in poverty.
Network Marketing is ideal, it can help avoid dependency, has no glass ceiling, no limits, increases self esteem, gives women control of their time and creates an opportunity for wealth.
PLUS it is FUN
The time is now for network marketing and Robert and Kim in this book have put the reasons why in writing, it should be standard reading in econmics in schools.

and thank you for summarising his words in your article.
I am always trying to spread Robert’s words about the importance of Financial Education to many of my friends and family who will listen, but unfortunately for them many don’t listen !! But as the saying goes ‘Action speaks louder than words’ and I’m now trying to do this via my blog and my network marketing, and I must agree with Robert, being an Entrepreneur is not easy and involves a lot of hard work, it’s challenging and definitely is not a ‘get rich quick’ scheme lol! but it’s fun and rewarding, and I’m looking forward to the day that I can ‘fire my boss’ and do this full time and achieve the life of my choosing – then ‘seeing will be believing’ and then I believe that people will listen to me and I can help them to help themselves to re-educate themselves and have the life of their choosing.
In the meantime I’m on a steep learning curve, and not always doing things the way I should and making lots of mistakes (I’m not very technical, but learning lol!
) and taking longer than most people to do so… but hey! who said it was a race… I know I’ll get there.

Thank you for this very incredible post. There is a lot of valuable information. As a former federal worker everyone had said it was safe and with todays economy and technology things have certainly changed. I am grateful to have found a Homebased Business that I love.

I’ve been reading Kiyosaki for about 15 years. His principles are even more relevant today than ever. Moving from the (E) Employee or (S) where if you don’t work you don’t get paid, to the other side of the quadrant (I) Investor or (B) Business owner (where you get paid in your sleep) is absolutely essential…

Thank you Robert Kiyosaki and to you Kellie for educating us on a topic that school never taught us. Even our children continue to be brought up in the same educational environment and mentality that Robert speaks of. It takes boldness and courage to step away from the “old boy network” and be on the opposite side of the employee and small business quadrant as Robert and you ultimately did. If you guys could do it, why not us? I am so grateful that I was introduced to network marketing and can pass on to my children what I continue to learn as an entrepreneur.

i love what RK says about being an entrepreneur: “You don’t get rich quick, it is harder, and it takes courage.”
our business is not a “get-rich-quick” path, and it took me over a year to accept that fact. but it is “become-a-better-person-quick” business, and now that’s my favorite thing about it!
i never thought of being an entrepreneur; it’s something i definitely fell into. but now i can’t imagine living my life (and my livelihood) any other way. we have a responsibility as entrepreneurs to “spread the word”. it brings credibility to our business and helps our country become self-sufficient, financially stable, better people, better parents, etc. etc. etc.

I hadn’t had the chance to read this book although I read all his others so was thrilled to get such a comprehensive review.
And yes, network marketing is indeed the industry of the 21st century and I’m so glad to have heavyweights in the financial industry like Kyosaki, Donald Trump and even Warren Buffet advocating it.
It’s about time they all woke up to what we’ve known for years LOL

Good stuff. It’s been a while since I heard this and now that I’m looking to broaden my career into other areas, the information is a very useful reminder of why I chose my last career, and why I am now looking for other opportunities. Hi Kellie, I’m a big Robert Kiyosaki fan, too! I really believe in network marketing, I was a Usana distributor for many years, and I had moderate success. One thing I found is that you have to be a certain type of person to be a network marketer. You have to be able to motivate your downline and not get discouraged. I tend to be pretty driven to succeed and when my downline didn’t have that same drive, I got discouraged. I decided to go the route of battling Google instead of my downline, so now my focus is affiliate marketing!
