7 Essential Characteristics Leading To Success – Charice’s Story

What determines that saying “A Star Is Born”?

I’ll never forget the day I saw Charice on the Oprah Winfrey show on May 12, 2008.  She brought me to tears, it was like the Universe was speaking through her voice.  It was the most inspiring performance from a little 15 year old girl who lived in the Philippines.  I remember feeling such love in my heart and I couldn’t stop crying.  I knew she was going to be a Big Star!

After being mesmerized that day, I followed her career and watched her perform on Youtube.  Then recently, I saw her on Oprah again and this time, she’s launching her 1st album!  In 2 years, she is now a Mega Star. 😯  I started to research her life and I was inspired to write this blog post because her life has the same secrets to success which all really successful people have:

7 Traits Of Success

1) Burning Desire – When Charice was 4 years old, her mother decided to leave her father because he was very abusive.  Charice’s mother worked 16 hrs/day in a factory to support Charice and her little brother.  Charice decided to start singing in local singing contests to try to help her Mom by winning these contests.  She entered more than 80 contests since she was 7 years old.  Charice’s burning desire has been to help her mother.

2) Documented Dreams – Charice has a sketch pad where she drew pictures of her and Celine Dion singing together.  She also drew one of Andrea Bocelli and herself singing together.  She always dreamed of being a star and drew pictures of her dreams.

3) Never Give Up – She had been told she was not good enough and not pretty enough to be a star.  She also was very discouraged in 2005 when she finished 3rd in a very big talent show on a Filipino television show.  She wanted to give up and was thinking of becoming a nurse.

4) Always Believe – With her mother’s encouragement, Charice never gave up and continued to believe and dream.  An online stranger named FalseVoice started to post her videos on YouTube and her performances started to get noticed.  She became an Internet sensation which lead to her success today.

5) Do Your Best Everyday – She was 3 years old when she witnessed her father abusing her mother and ever since they left, they have had to survive on their own.  Charice says she always wanted to help her Mom and she did everything she could even at her young age.  Today, as a superstar who is now working with David Foster (the best songwriter/producer), Charice says David says “it cannot just be good, it has to be great!”.

6) Be Grateful – When asked who was her greatest inspiration by an interviewer who was expecting Charice to say “Celine Dion”, Charice says yes, however, the most inspiring person to her is her Mom!  This past May, Charice bought her Mom her dream house for mother’s day.

7) Use Your Circumstances As A Launching Pad – In studying many successful people, I have learned that we all have circumstances, however, it is how we decide to use those circumstances which determines whether we will be launched to incredible success or launched into another circumstance. Charice, like all successful people, used her difficult circumstances to launch her into stardom and this is just the beginning of her bright future.

Here’s Charice’s humble beginnings and her dreams:

What an inspiring girl! So true about the attributes that make up all successful people. Rather than being mostly silver spoon babies, who are prone to feelings of obligations, many of the most wildly successful people are those who come from rough beginnings and use them as a spring board to rise beyond their peers. What a beautiful example of success from a humble beginning. (Not to mention an awesome voice!)

The love she carries for the mother who sacrificed for her and her brother which culminated in the purchase of their home is so inspiring…She is truly an example of someone who didn’t let her circumstances and past hold her back.
